The IMS Austrian chapter is pleased to announce the following lecture:

Topic: Foundations and applications of industrial humidity measurement techniques

Speaker: Patrick Raab (designated institute BEV / E+E Elektronik GesmbH)

The lecture takes place on

Thursday, November 30, 2023, 17:15h - 18:45h

Language: The lecture will be held in German

Abstract:

The practical influence of relative humidity in air on industrial applications is often not well understood. However, humidity can severely influence the function of electronics, seal elements, stability of polymers, etc. Thus, it is important to be able to quantify the amount of humidity present in a system.

This talk covers the basics of humidity and humidity measurements:

  • relations between absolute humidity, relative humidity, dew point, vapour pressure, etc.

  • significance of these quantities in technical applications

  • humidity calibration methods: humidity generators
  • measurement prinziples: psychrometer, dew point mirror hygrometer, capacitive hygrometer

Practical applications will be referenced throughout the lecture.

This preliminary abstract will be subject to minor changes.

Bio:

Patrick Raab is part of the designated institute BEV at E+E Elektronik GesmbH where he specializes in humidity and dew point measurement techniques. He regularly publishes his research in peer reviewed articles and is a member of the BIPM working group humidity (https://www.bipm.org/en/committees/cc/cct/wg/cct-wg-hu) and is an Euramet contact person for humidity (https://www.euramet.org/contact-search/detail/person/patrick-raab).
