Bio Sketches of all Speakers

Introduction to IEEE – 10 min – Peter Rössler, UAS Technikum Wien, Past Chair IEEE Austria Section

IEEE is the world’s largest professional society dedicated to the advancement of technology for the benefit of humanity. It has a dual complementary regional and technical structure - with organizational units based on geography and technical focus.

IEEE-SA and How Standardization Can Enhance Your Business and Career – 15 min – Yatin Trivedi, Synopsys, Inc., Past Chair and Current Member of IEEE Standards Education Committee, Member Design Automation Standards Committee
The IEEE Standards Association (IEEE-SA) is a leading consensus building organization that nurtures, develops and advances global technologies through the development of open standards, technology exploration programs, and market implementation. Hear corporate success stories and how individuals can drive their careers in new directions as well as transform the way people live, work, and communicate.

Internet of Things Enabling Smart Cities – 30 min – Bruce Kraemer, Marvell Semiconductor, Inc., President of IEEE-SA and Past Chair of IEEE 802.11 Working Group
The Internet of Things (IoT) will change the world. Recognizing the value of IoT to industry and the benefits this technology innovation brings to the public, the IEEE-SA has a number of standards, projects and events that are directly related to creating the environment needed for a vibrant IoT. IEEE standards are a key foundation for this development.

Smart Grids – 20 min – Gary Hoffman, Advanced Power Technologies, Member of IEEE Power & Energy Society and IEEE-SA Standards Board
The “Smart Grid" has come to describe a next-generation electrical power system that is typified by the increased use of communications and information technology in the generation, delivery and consumption of electrical energy.

eHealth (incl. AAL) – 10 min – FH-Prof. DI Dr. Stefan Sauermann, Technikum Wien, IEEE 11073 Personal Health Devices Working Group Member
The eHealth environment emerging around the globe is predicated on standards-based interoperability of multi-vendor technology, and help to enable multivendor systems and applications to speak the same language. Healthcare providers are then able to cost-effectively source the disparate array of standards-based technologies that their patients need without limitations on how information is shared across the end-to-end infrastructure.

Intelligent Transportation – 15 min – Dr. Yu Yuan, Cate Global, Chair of IEEE Standards Coordinating Committee on Transportation, Member of IEEE-SA Standards Board
With advanced Intelligent Transportation Systems, users are able to make safer and smarter use of transport networks. Learn how standardization activities facilitate the advancement of communications, computer, control, and electronics technologies related to Intelligent Transport Systems.

Cloud Computing & Data Analytics – 15 min – Xiaohui Liu , Huawei Technologies Corporation Ltd, Member of IEEE-SA New Standards Committee and Industry Connections Committee
Cloud computing is expected to have a significant impact on the entire information and communications ecosystem and lead to the creation of 14 million new jobs. This session will include information on IEEE-SA’s activities in this field.

Software-Defined Networks – 15 min – Glenn Parsons, Ericsson, Chair of IEEE802.1 Working Group, Member of IEEE-SA Standards Board
“Softwarization” is happening in various industries to optimize costs and processes. This transformation is mainly driven by IT advances (e.g., performance of standard hardware intertwined with down-spiraling costs) and by the growing availability of software solutions (e.g., in Open Source Software) that are steering the evolution of current networks towards a highly dynamic and flexible environment of virtual resources, interconnected by virtual links that are set up and torn down to serve multiple applications.

Interactive panel discussion on Technology Policy – 30 min – Various
These cutting-edge technologies bring much opportunity for better quality of life, productivity, and efficiency, but also create new challenges that need to be addressed, such as how all the information will be managed and privacy protected. Join this timely discussion with our experts.
