ABSTRACT
Seeing events in 2D pictures with deep learning applied to visual cortex neural architectures: a tool of the future for pow ersystem control centers.
Phasor Mea surement Units(PMUs) are being installed and then control centres are becom ing flooded with atsunami of data. The information contained in such big da ta environment islargely left unused, but the PMU data contain signatures o f dynamic events andthe prompt recognition of such events could lead to bet ter alarm processing, more accurate event diagnosis and possibly to preventi ve problem detection. Thetalk will reveal the most recent advances in deali ng with this big data problemthrough deep learning with CNNs (Convolutional Neural Networks), whosearchitecture mimics the visual cortex of the human brain, and computing withGPUs (Graphic Processing Units). PMU real data fro m Brazil will show how thetransformation of PMU time domain measurements of system frequency into 2Dcolour pictures allows a 100% success, with a CNN, in recognizing andclassifying dynamic events such as, for example, generat or or line tripping, load disconnection of inter-area oscillation.
